Timothy A. Judge is the Joseph A. Alutto Chair in Leadership Effectiveness, and Executive Director of the Fisher Leadership Initiative, Fisher College of Business, The Ohio State University. Judge also is a Fellow of The Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and Visiting Professor, Division of Psychology & Language Sciences, University College London.
Judge received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Previously, he was the Franklin D. Schurz Professor of Management and Associate Dean for Faculty and Research, Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame. In his career, Judge has published 154 articles in refereed journals. His publication of 85 articles in top-tier journals (out of 20,059 authors) is the most in the 100-year history of management research. According to Google Scholar, Judge’s research has been cited over 65,000 times, and he has appeared on several lists of the most-cited scholars in business schools. A 2017 study identified him as the most cited out of more than 8,000 scholars in applied psychology.
Judge is a fellow of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the International Association of Applied Psychology. His books include Organizational Behavior with Stephen Robbins and Staffing Organizations with H. G. Heneman III and J. D. Kammeyer-Mueller. Judge’s primary research interests are in the areas of personality, leadership, job attitudes, and career and life success.
At Notre Dame, Judge served as a member of the Provost’s Cabinet, on the Faculty Affairs Committee of the University of Notre Dame Board of Trustees, and on the Provost’s Advisory Committee (PAC). Also at Notre Dame, he served as Chair of the Department of Management, and chaired a university-wide committee tasked with considering how Notre Dame could more effectively evaluate teaching effectiveness across all its colleges and academic units. Currently, Judge is director of research for a start-up company in Notre Dame’s Innovation Park. At Ohio State, Judge serves on a committee chaired by Vice Provost Randy Smith examining how leadership instruction can be advanced across the university.
Judge’s hobbies include hiking and mountain climbing, kayaking, golfing, baking, and reading. He and his wife Jill are parents of Abigail, a social worker at the University of Florida Hospitals and Clinics, Martha, currently performing a service project in inner city Los Angeles, and Carsten, an eighth-grader at The Wellington School in Columbus.
